Summer, aka day drinking outside season, is here and while it’s always fun to head to a local rooftop bar, sometimes we crave something a little classier. Enter wineries – there’s just something about being in a vineyard that automatically makes us feel sophisticated, so we rounded up some of our favorites all within a two hour drive from Manhattan.
Laurita Winery – New Egypt, NJ
The wines at Laurita are great, but the best thing about this winery is the food truck festivals. Wine + food truck snacks = match made in heaven. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing we crave more after a day of drinking than an empanada or cheesecake. If you prefer a weekend getaway over a day trip, The Inn at Laurita is super charming, romantic escape.
Brotherhood Winery – Washingtonville, NY
Brotherhood is America’s oldest winery. They’ve been making wine since 1837, so they kind of know what they’re doing and this summer they’re teaming up with Yuengling, America’s oldest brewery for a beer and wine festival (your BF who claims to hate wine now has no excuse for not going). Brotherhood is a little over an hour outside NYC, super close to the Woodbury Commons Outlets – tipsy shopping anyone?
Bucks County Wine Trail – Bucks County, PA
Yes, that’s right, there is an entire trail of wineries throughout Bucks County. Who knew Pennsylvania could be so exciting (kidding, kind of J). One of our favorites – Crossing Vineyards & Winery. Fun fact: it’s located less than a mile from where George Washington crossed the Delaware River in 1776 and it’s also super close to New Hope, a quirky town with lots of cute boutiques and waterfront bars.
Wölffer Estate Vineyard – Sagaponack, NY
You didn’t really think we’d put together a list of awesome wineries and leave out the crown jewel of Long Island rosé – Wölffer Estate. This winery makes the perfect pit stop on your way out to Montauk (and stopping again on the way home can make that Hamptons traffic a bit more bearable). Feeling like you need a little zen in your life? Wölffer also hosts Yoga in the Vines Wednesdays – Sundays until October.
