New York Fashion Week is a time of marvelous mayhem. Perfectly curated editors, bloggers, models, celebrities and socialites gracefully descend upon Manhattan as street style photographers shoot away – paparazzi style – and unexpected tourists gawk at the lives of fashion’s elite. This ritual, which happens twice each year, is the most important moment for up-and-coming and established designers alike… who is sitting front row at their show? What did Women’s Wear Daily say about their collection? Will editors and bloggers feature their looks in upcoming stories? It’s the time to make it, or break it.
Editors and bloggers can go to up to 1 show per hour each day, so staying organized is KEY during NYFW. We wanted to know… what do these fabulous creatures EAT when they’re running around the city all day, every day?! Can you say #hangry? Luckily one of our Out Of Office NY Network gals Esther of style blog, Louboutins & Love, filled us in on allllllllll the little secrets.
Grab-and-go energy bars that actually sustain you: getting a good breakfast in is very important, but I usually have to leave my apartment so early in the morning that I tend to choose grab-and-go breakfasts during New York Fashion Week. I like White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cliff Bars and Madagascar Vanilla Almond Kind Bars – they are both a nice combination of sweet and savory, and they get me through the first show of the day [without making me late!]
Strong snack game: I’m a huge snacker, and being at Fashion Week is no exception. The bigger the handbag I bring, the more snacks I stuff inside. It’s imperative to have plenty of tasty snacks on hand, so you can keep your energy level high! My go-to’s are plantain chips, milk chocolate covered pretzels, veggie chips and always an assortment of chocolates. I have no shame in sneaking in a little snack action during a show 😉
Take advantage of restaurants nearby: Obviously, there are TONS of delicious restaurants in NYC, so it’s a perfect time to test out new spots during Fashion Week! I usually don’t have time for a full sit down meal between shows, but if you plan ahead a little bit, you can map out which spots you want to hit. When Fashion Week was still at Lincoln Center, I would stop by Maoz every single day between my 1pm and 2pm shows for my falafel sandwich and sweet potato fries fix. And as soon as Fashion Week is over… you’ll find me at Caravan Of Dreams 😉
Call in the troops: Luckily, my boyfriend happens to manage a chain of sushi restaurants called SimplySushi. He makes sure I stay fed and is always happy to drop off a roll or two of sushi for me to chow down between shows. If you are in a pinch, it’s always nice to have someone you can call to bring you a little pick-me- up, or you can always ask a fellow blogger for a bite!
Party it up: Sometimes the after parties are even better than the shows themselves! The designers, models, and guests finally get to let loose and mingle without worrying about making it to their next show or presentation. After-parties also happen to be a great place to meet celebrities and famous models. I’ve definitely met my fair share at the parties. Cara Delevigne, Jourdan Dunn, and Naomi Campbell to name a few. Hands down, the best drink I ever had at an after party was a pomegranate and vodka cocktail. You definitely have to let yourself indulge – and after the day, you can certainly use a good drink. Craving one right now.
