Looking to cozy up in a quaint mountain town for a little R&R? Look no further than the adorable Highlands, North Carolina. Our college roomie had her bachelorette party here a few months ago, and unfortunately Steph and I couldn’t make it, so I was excited to get to visit with my mom this month! I am both happy and sad to report that I had no bear sitings…
I rounded up my recommendations on what to do while you’re there – let us know in the comments if you’re planning any trips soon!
WHAT TO DO IN HIGHLANDS, NC
Whiteside Mountain: This gorgeous 2 mile hike is easy to do, and the views of the Appalachian / Smoky Mountains are amazing!
Secret Falls: This waterfall is straight out of a fairytale! The hike down is a bit steep, but totally worth it. Bring your bathing suit (and some booze) and spend the day laying out.
Old Edwards Inn Spa: Rainy day? No worries! Book an appointment at the spa at Old Edwards Inn, and spend the rest of the day taking advantage of the luxe amenities.
Main Street Inn: This bed & breakfast doubles as a restaurant serving up a delish lunch. Grab some wine, sit outside and enjoy some refreshing mountain air.
The Spice and Tea Exchange: Ok – this might not sound exciting, but it’s actually pretty cool. This little shop has a million different salts, peppers, sugars, spices and teas. I bought the black truffle salt – perfect for pasta… YUM! You’ll also want to check out the other cute shops in downtown Highlands.
Cabin Fun: I suggest renting a fabulous cabin with your friends / family for the ULTIMATE mountain experience. We stayed with some family friends at their house, and it was so nice to just cook, sip cocktails and chit chat on the porch overlooking the woods. A lot of the cabins in Highlands are really big, so you can bring a huge group – would be a fun way to meet up with all your college friends! Rent the cabin I stayed in HERE 🙂
