While Manhattanites are able to escape the grueling heat of the concrete jungle by skipping off to a nearby summer sanctuary like Montauk or Fire Island, for me, there is still something special about Florida beaches that bring back memories of childhood. I set off to the sunshine state on a much needed vacation excited to work on my tan, indulge in some of my favorite beach eats like oysters, Mahi Mahi sandwiches and homemade hush puppies and of course, spend some quality time with family.
i always say i just want to relax on vacation, but i am so used to my new york lifestyle where I am moving a mile a minute that relaxing is really difficult for me. i was definitely busy on this vacation – per usual, i was able to find a cute bike shop (with pastel bicycles woo!) and spent some time cruising along the beach (after I accidentally tumbled down an embankment…oops… thank goodness for sand!) i also enjoyed some ice cream from pollyanna’s – an adorable little stand right on the beach while I read primates of park avenue.
I also got to debut my new kimono from Bene! I’m so particular when it comes to bathing suit cover ups, so i was delighted to find this piece which is super versatile – you can wear it over a swimsuit or even over a tank for a casual night out. The vibrant designs are actually inspired and influenced by Ghana culture, which is really cool because Bene contributes to women’s education in Ghana by supplying books, uniforms and other schools supplies!
