Waking up in the morning is tough, especially when you know you have to head to work for 8 hours. Most of us hit the snooze button a few times and need coffee through an IV to even put our feet on the ground. While catching that extra 5 minutes of sleep might seem like a good idea in the morning, waking up early and getting a head start on the day is actually a great way to reduce anxiety and feel more in control of your life. Try incorporating some of these morning rituals into your routine, and you might actually start to look forward to waking up!
A healthy breakfast is the answer to every hard morning. There is a reason it’s called the most important meal of the day. Something filling with lots of protein, like egg whites, avocado, or even a hearty bowl of oatmeal will do the trick. If a ‘heavier’ breakfast isn’t your thing, try a green juice or smoothie — just make sure you get something in your system to start the day off on a positive, delicious note!
Catch up on News
Starting off the morning well educated will help throughout the work day. You never know what is going to come up so knowing what is going on in the world is major key. Download your favorite news app on your phone, or better yet, sign up for TheSkimm or The Newsette so you can get your news delivered to your inbox every morning. It’s that easy!
Meditating is a great way to clear your mind and prep for the day. It gives you a few minutes alone with your thoughts, and allows you to visualize what the day will look like. Whether you meditate while still in bed, or on the commute to work, it will help. Download HeadSpace on your smartphone, a great app that guides your meditation.
Your first thoughts should not be spent scrolling mindlessly on social media. Instead of getting caught up on other’s newsfeeds, think about what you want to acheive for the day. Writing down your thoughts also allows you to get the juices flowing. You can write down how you’re feeling, what you’re grateful for, or even what you want to accomplish before the end of the day. It keeps yourself in check and aware of your mood.
Listen to a podcast
Instead of getting ready in the quiet, put on your favorite podcast as background noise while you apply your makeup. Hearing other people talk can help you to wake up and feel more motivated. Pick a good podcast that will make you feel excited about the day and your commute to work!
Now, get lots of coffee, a good agenda, and your favorite lipstick. You’re ready to monslay the day and the week.
