Ah… Cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May, the day of all days to celebrate Mexico’s triumph over the French (NOT Mexico’s independence day… we should all know this by now). Admittedly here in America, it’s also a reason to enjoy tequila, tacos, mezcal and all things Mexican. Cinco de Mayo also happens to be on a Friday this year… Arriba!
Now of course, when searching for a place to celebrate this glorious day, you wouldn’t dare settle for just ANY Mexican restaurant. You need authentic, you need traditional and you need quality Mexican cuisine. “Yea ok so tell us where to go” (is what you’re thinking). It’s easy, The Taco Shop. Born on the streets of Mexico City, The Taco Shop brings the culinary and social taco experience right into the center of the West Village. It’s a small place with big heritage. Though the cuisine is crafted with culinary expertise the flavors are still funky enough to maintain their street cred.
Not only are the tacos (and literally everything on their menu) beyond delicious, the margaritas…YUM. Their classic organic margarita made with fresh fruit puree will leave you craving another and yet still feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning (goodbye heavy sugar and artificial sweeteners). Their other signature cocktail is the mezcal margarita. Mezcal is an agave based liquor similar to tequila but with a smoky taste and a more intricate production process. If you’ve never had it, we suggest trying a shot first, with a side of spicy salt and grasshoppers. Yup.
The Taco Shop is bringing the true taqueria experience to the West Village, plus some incredible brunch deals ($20 all you can eat & $16 all you can drink) and happy hour ($12 for 3 tacos + 1 margarita). We suggest you hurry now before you have to wait in a line down the block for this hidden gem!
We know where we’ll be this Friday – come see us! Cheers to Cinco de Mayo!
