The time to break out those bikinis and flip-flops, SB 2k17, is almost here. Whether you are escaping the frigid temps in the Northeast or just ready to get off campus for a week, the time is now. But whenever college students hear Spring Break they also see dollar signs. A memorable trip to PCB can end up breaking the bank and casting a shadow on those sandy memories. But don’t worry, we’ve got your back with some tips and tricks to make the most of Spring Break on a budget:
Go With Friends
This tip is kind of obvious, but there is some reasoning behind it. Traveling with friends means you can split the hotel room bill instead of having to cover it all yourself. You’ll be spending time with your BFFs anyways, so rooming together makes it easier for everyone!
Buying groceries and cooking not only means more time spent with friends, but saving that cash for the 2 for 1 shots at the bar. Splitting a grocery bill is much more cost effective than trying to go dutch for every single meal of the day. Make your own breakfast and lunch and even your own pitcher of margaritas during the day so you can splurge when you go out at night.
Gas is expensive, but buying airplane tickets are much more expensive. If your SB destination is close enough to roadtrip to, we recommend it! This way you can take the extra money you’d spend on flights and use it towards lodging or another round at the bar.
Utilize Coupon Sites
This is something you should constantly be doing as a college student, but especially for Spring Break. Check coupon sites such as Groupon or RetailMeNot for deals that are local to where you are vacationing. There might be bars and restaurants running deals specific to Spring Break or local events only happening that week.
Do Your Research (seriously.)
We cannot stress this one enough: DO YOUR RESEARCH. It’s like when you splurge on those really cute shoes in the department store only to see them on a discount site later that day (tragic, we know). By checking prices on different travel sites for hotels or flights you are sure to get the most bang for your buck. This will require some time and planning, but taking the time before the trip means no worries once you hit the beach.
Lastly, have so much fun! Maybe just not as much fun as the spring breakers + James Franco, but you know, close enough.
