One of the (many) amazing things about living in NYC is that there are tons of great escapes nearby. You don’t have to hop on a plane or drive eight hours to get a nice change of scenery. A few weeks ago, Steph and I were in need of a little R&R, or what actually translates to “creative time” for us. Running your own company requires that you are always coming up with new ideas, and sometimes that is done best when you are out of your usual setting aka the madness of New York City.
We set off to Mount Pocano, Pennsylvania for a weekend stay at Mount Airy. The resort is nestled in the middle of the mountains, and even though a lot of people come to the resort for the casino, we actually found it very relaxing. We took a joy ride on the golf course and admired all the “nature” we’re so denied of in the city, chowed down on a macaroni and cheese burger at Guy Fieri’s restaurant, rejuvenated at the spa and even gambled a bit… with our neighbor’s gifted money (thanks Brock!). When it comes to gambling, I’m pretty clueless, although I at least know how to play Blackjack thanks to my little brother. To give you an idea of the level of cluelessness we’re talking, I actually went up to someone in the casino, looked them dead in the eyes and said with confidence “where can we play Russian Roulette?” As you can imagine, the person was very confused and a little nervous. Obviously, I just meant roulette, but at least now I know the difference (insert monkey covering its eyes emoji here).
We definitely recommend trying Mount Airy for a little getaway. It’s great for those of you who like to try your luck at the casino (not talking gambling with lives here) or like us, take some time to get a massage, order room service and brainstorm exciting, creative ideas (yeah, we’re nerdy like that).
Take the bus from Penn Station to Mount Pocano – it’s a quick 1.5 hour ride!
