I’m sure you can all relate to the difficulty of finding that special someone who you can really trust…with your hair. You would think that in New York City, with endless options, locking down a fabulous stylist and colorist would be a piece of cake… but it’s just NOT. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve held my breath as I watched bleach being slapped onto my ends or had to object when the colorist starts ripping out my foils a litttttle too soon (blondes, you know what I’m talking about).
I am happy to report that Steph and I have found a salon, and we want to share our full-service maison de beaute with you! Marie-Lou & D is a European-inspired salon in Soho offering a wide range of glam services including hair, color, nails, spa and waxing. We went in last weekend for a color refresh before our upcoming Miami vacation.
My hair has been every color on the spectrum from black to platinum and every variation in between, but a bright, champagne blonde is by far my favorite look for myself. Of course since that’s so specific, it’s always a challenge to explain. At Mary-Lou & D, I was shocked when the colorist, who was clearly very experienced, understood exactly what I wanted! Instead of foil highlights, which I usually get in order to achieve a blonder (and less bronze) look, the colorist insisted that I try balayage again. It turned out amazing! For blondes, balayage is less damaging on your hair because the bleach doesn’t go all the way to your ends, and it’s painted directly on the strands with precision, preventing streaks.
Steph decided to go for a warmer shade of brown with hints of red. She previously had blonde ombre, so the colorist completely covered that with filler and then put on a glaze. Her hair looked so healthy and shiny afterwards!
We definitely recommend trying out Mary-Lou & D – especially for color. Book an appointment with a friend, sip rose while you get your blowout then head to dinner or happy hour to show off your fab new look. We suggest Emmett’s in Soho for the BEST Chicago style pizza around – it’s a great way to end a day of pampering.
