After eight years in New York City as a model, I have learned a thing or two about nutrition. While I used to love unhealthy foods and thought that dieting meant restricting what I ate, I have realized that eating foods that are good for me makes me feel fuller, more satisfied, healthier, and more energized among so many other things!
I wish I had learned earlier in my life that healthy eating is a lifestyle choice that encompasses so much more than losing weight. I love being active and working out, challenging my brain through my schoolwork, writing, and internships, and running all over the city to castings, fittings, and jobs. I have to take care of myself in order for me to be on top of my game and feel my best.
A huge part of eating healthy, for me at least, comes down to always having a good option to choose when hunger strikes. That is why I like to pack lots of healthy snacks with me when I leave my apartment for the day. Here are a few of my faves.
- Justin’s Almond Butter Packets.
Almond butter and lots of healthy fats are so key to my everyday diet. They keep me feeling full and satisfied. I love that these come in little packets to stash in your purse.
- Kale Chips.
I used to be a huge potato chip/french fry fan, but now I try to incorporate more veggies into my diet. This is the perfect way! Crunchy and delicious.
- Raw Crunch.
Granola bars can be a great way to snack on the go, but a lot of them have a lot of extra sugar and artificial ingredients. These ones get the green light for being totally unprocessed and yummy!
- Organic Popcorn.
Popcorn is one of my absolute favorite snacks, and although you can buy a lot of great organic pre-popped options, my favorite way is to cook it myself in a popcorn popper (or on the stove) with a little coconut oil. Add some melted organic ghee for a buttery treat.
- Green & Black’s Organic Dark Chocolate.
Every once in awhile you have to have some chocolate (but not the sugar-laden kind)! Organic dark chocolate has some sweet health benefits (i.e. powerful antioxidants) and tastes wonderfully pure and delicious.
Have you tried any of these brands? Which one’s do you want to?! Let me know in the comments.
