Battling stress and fatigue (aren’t we all)?
Try adaptogens in your afternoon pick-me-up!
Adaptogens are a unique group of herbal ingredients used to improve the health of your adrenal system. That’s the system that’s in charge of managing your body’s hormonal response to stress. They help strengthen the body’s ability to cope with anxiety and fight fatigue – slowly and gently, without jolts or crashes. They’re called adaptogens because of their unique ability to “adapt” their function according to your body’s specific needs.
So how can you incorporate these miracle workers into your daily routine? Behold my own homemade energy shot elixir with homemade coconut milk, matcha, munuca powder, ashwagandha, red maca, and stevia! Ashwagandha and Maca are the adaptogens in this elixir, both helping support your thyroid and adrenal glands, which are pivotal hormone centers that regulate metabolism, stress, blood pressure, blood sugar, body weight, and energy levels among many other functions. Maca, my personal favorite adaptogen, is especially wonderful for balancing hormones and added extra strength (which I’ve noticed).
In addition to adaptogens, the green tea matcha included in this recipe is full of so many antioxidants that are good for your skin, has anti-aging benefits, can prevent cancer, and gives you a boost of energy (without wearing out your adrenals). Munuca powder (L- dopa) is an amino acid that gives your brain a boost of feel-good positivity, who wouldn’t want that, am I right? With stevia used as a sweetener, this is an ideal low glycemic option. So stop with the red bulls and coffee and add more matcha to your diet! Your mind, body and soul will thank you. Recipe below! #Organic
Adaptogenic Energy Boost Elixir
- 1 cup homemade coconut milk* see recipe below
- 1 teaspoon organic Matcha (green tea) powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Red Maca root powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Ashwagandha
- 1/2 teaspoon Mucuna powder
- Stevia to taste (I used one packet organic stevia)
Directions: Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. (Only about 5-10 seconds)
Yields 4 Elixir Shots
Homemade Coconut Milk*
- 1 rounded cup fresh Thai coconut meat
- 3 cups filtered water
Directions: Blend on high until smooth (approximately 45 seconds). Pour through a nut milk bag over a large bowl and squeeze until milk no longer strains through. (You can save the filtered coconut pulp for later.)
Tip: From the bowl, transfer filtered milk back into your Vitamix (or other blender) and use that to pour into bottles! Makes for a much easier and neater process.
