The Morning After a Cheat Day…
Waking up with bean dip caked in your hair and a trail of tortilla chips leading to the kitchen? It’s the day after the Super Bowl – and much like Black Friday and July 5th, you’re undoubtedly feeling the effects of overindulgence.
Assuming you strive to live a healthy lifestyle 95% of the week, a bona fide cheat day littered with buffalo wings and beer will throw your body for a loop. Prepare yourself for indigestion, lethargy, a few trips to the bathroom (yes, we’re going there) and, worst of all, the tendency to gorge yourself on leftovers.
Fight the feelings listed above and bounce back from a day and night of partying – especially if you happen to be a Patriot’s fan*.
- Hydrate. Water cleanses and flushes your body of salt and sugar – both consumed in mass on a cheat day.
- Eat right. In the couple of days after a binge, limit your diet to protein and non-starchy vegetables. Think kale, avocado, grilled chicken, eggs, etc. Try to avoid carbs.
- Plan your next workout. Sleeping through your Monday morning alarm and returning home from work to become one with the couch is tempting – butcha gotta resist the urge. Go ahead and schedule an afternoon spin class or carve out an hour for a jog. Lace up your sneakers and jump back into a healthy lifestyle.
- Clean Up. Rid your kitchen of leftover pizza and banana bread and the processed ingredients found within. Share with friends, neighbors, or the trashcan – but don’t let plastic containers of latent French onion dip stare you down every time you open the refrigerator.
*Please note that, as a Georgia girl, I hope your hangover is worse than mine.
