Since we’re not fans of running on the treadmill, climbing the stair master or lifting dumbbells, we have been on the search for NYC’s most interesting workouts! This week we tried our skills in the beginner silks class at Manhattan’s new training center for aerial and circus arts – Aerial Arts nyc.
Walking into the training center, we immediately noticed two acrobats effortlessly flipping through the air rehearsing for a show. They had no harness of any kind – they were only supporting themselves with a colorful silk. Honestly, they made it look so easy, we thought after a few lessons, we’d be headed to audition for Cirque du Soleil. turns out, our first attempt was pretty patheticOour instructor and the more experienced students were able to climb all the way up the silk, but we could barely get off the ground. After we were reassured that this is completely normal for a first class, we gained some more confidence and even did a few moves upside down!
Aerial Arts is definitely a full body workout. flexibility, arm and core strength and nerves were put to the test. We were so focused on learning the different moves, we didn’t even realize we were getting such a great workout! We are still sore a week later!
Thank you for the class Aerial Arts nyc. All writing, opinions and photography is our own.
