Maybe you’re not committed to a full weekend getaway at top dollar prices this Labor Day Weekend. Try one of these NYC area day trips to ensure you still get that out of town LDW #Insta.
Nyack, New York
Only about 40 minutes from Manhattan, Nyack has everything needed for the perfect low key summer Friday – brunch, spas and booze. Relax with a facial at Bella Tu Med Spa, then head to Art Café for mimosas and Shakshouka. Music lovers should be sure to stop by Kiam Records Shop to browse their rare, vintage collection.
Long Branch, New Jersey
We know, we know, “Jersey Shore” conjures images of leopard print and fake orange tans, but hear us out – Long Branch is a classic, yet classy Jersey Shore destination for a beach day. The best bet is to get a day pass and post up at Le Club at Avenue, an elegant beach club with towel service, private cabanas and drinks delivered directly to your lounge chair. If the ocean isn’t your thing, there’ also a private pool on the upstairs lounge.
While Delaware sounds far away, it’s actually less than two hours via Amtrak. Enjoy fresh air with a cruise along the Christina River on the Wilmington Water Taxi, before getting artsy (aka finding the perfect Insta pic) at The Delaware Contemporary, where local artisans showcase their work on a rotating basis. Finish the day at Constitution Yards Beer Garden with a craft beer, parmesan garlic tots, and a game of bocce.
Litchfield County, Connecticut
This under the radar part of Connecticut is where shopping dreams come true. Stop by Plain Goods to find the perfect addition to your minimalist-chic kitchen or J. Seitz & Company for a one-of-a-kind piece for your jewelry collection. A day of retail therapy will undoubtedly leave you hungry – enjoy duck poutine and a glass of wine on the patio at the White Horse Country Pub before returning to the city.
