While Memorial Day kicks off summer, Fourth of July is when it starts to feel real. It’s also when we start needing an escape from the concrete jungle, so we rounded up options for a quick getaway to celebrate America’s birthday. Make sure to send a Snapchat video lounging by a rooftop pool wearing an American flag bikini or else your trip doesn’t really count.
Chicago knows how to turn up in the summer – probably because it’s ridiculously cold there 75% of the year. For Fourth of July Navy Pier is the place to be for the fireworks and if you’re looking for a more special (read bougie) experience, book a boat cruise. Or stay at the Radisson Blu and enjoy the action from the comfort of their rooftop pool.
If you’re going to Miami for Fourth of July, there’s a good chance you’ll be attending a pool party. You can’t go wrong with Surfcomber or Fontainebleau. When you need to escape the sun, venture to Brickell City Centre for some major retail therapy or to the trendy Wynwood neighborhood where an endless stream of street art will give the perfect artsy Instagram photo.
Go to Fenway. Even if you despise the Red Sox. Just do it – American pride literally radiates from the walls. Then head to the Seaport District for the best views of Boston Harbor. If you’re lucky enough to know someone with a boat, Del Frisco’s Boston will let you dock right in front and proceed to serve steaks and the dangerously delicious cheesesteak eggrolls to you while onboard.
New York, NY
How could we not include NYC on this list – home of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, aka the most anticipated event of the year!? Kidding. But really, this place isn’t half bad during a holiday weekend. Since many escape to the Hamptons or Jersey Shore, head to a restaurant that typically has a line out the door, like Emily or Sugarfish. Then head to one of the many rooftop bars where you might actually get a seat – we like Westlight at The William Vale and Mr. Purple at Hotel Indigo.
