Stress seems to loom around every corner. Your commute to work is making you late, you got in a fight with your boyfriend, or there is just something irking you — stress is always present.
Stress, anxiety and depression are issues that can really take over your life if you let them, and it can be difficult to disconnect from them. It can be hard to talk yourself down from the daily stressors of life and very easy to allow yourself to be consumed by those negative feelings.
Luckily, there are ways to combat those awful feelings and overcome them all together!
Whether you’re feeling like you can’t breathe because of an anxiety attack, or because you’re drowning in stress, just remember that this too shall pass. Here are some easy ways to help relieve stress – you’ll be feeling better in no time!
Apply Essentials Oils
There is a reason the world is obsessed with essential oils right now. Whether you diffuse them or apply them to pulse points, a few inhales of a calming oil can really bring you back down to earth. Lavender, chamomile, frankincense, and bergamot are just a few of the best oils for relieving stress. This calming roller ball is great to keep in your bag for those times when you’re too stressed to function.
Water is truly the cure for all. During a moment of stress or anxiety, a few sips of ice cold water will really make a difference. Your stress levels increase a bit when you’re dehydrated because your body is stressing itself out, so a few sips of H20 can help.
Cancel Your Plans
When it’s a super stressful day, any added activities can increase that stress. If you have plans for later on a stressful day, cancel them. When you’re having a bad day, it’s important to be a little selfish. Take care of yourself, go home and have a glass of wine.
Organize Your Space
Life is always better with a tidy space. If you’re feeling particularly antsy, try to straighten up your area. Whether that’s your kitchen, bedroom, or work desk, you’ll feel better after taking 5 minutes to get things in order.
Light a Candle
Similar to essential oils, candles are incredibly calming. Just think, after a stressful day at work, you come home, throw on a face mask, turn on your favorite reality TV show, and light a soothing scented candle. The flickering light, the warmth, and the scent will instantly give you a lighter feeling.
Watch a Movie or Read a Book
Taking time for yourself is so important, especially when you’re feeling a little high strung. Self care can really be anything you want but sometimes, losing yourself in another world is just what the mind needs. Whether that comes in the form of a movie, book, or television show, a little imagination will do you wonders.
When stress is getting the best of you, it’s important to just remember that it will pass. You can get through any trouble you’re experiencing and to just take a minute, take a deep breath, and restart your mind.
Take a few minutes for yourself, take a walk, or lock yourself in your room — tell your roommates or parents that you need to just be alone for an hour or so to recharge. Taking that time for yourself is very important for your mental health.
