We don’t blame you for not wanting to commit more than 45 minutes to the rando you just matched with on The League. Chances are, he’ll either talk your ear off about the stock market and bougie exotic vacations (gag) or he won’t say a word, leaving you to basically have a conversation with yourself (SOOO riveting).
On the off chance that you DO meet someone who doesn’t make you want to fabricate a TMI story about your apartment’s bed bugs just to get out of the date, you should consider doing some of these fun activities with that person. I mean, everyone knows “grabbing drinks” after date number two is just lame.
Chamber Magic by Steve Cohen, The Millionaires’ Magician
What’s sexier than dressing up in cocktail attire for an evening that will make you feel like you’ve stepped back into Titanic-era opulence? The Chamber Magic show, which previously took place in the famed penthouse at the Waldorf Astoria, has now moved locations due to the recent renovations. Fear not though, the legendary New York Palace is nothing to scoff at. Prepare to be baffled during this intimate magic show featuring mind reading, sleight of hand and so many other mesmerizing tricks.
This is not your grandma’s museum tour – prepare to laugh your ass off while you learn about art. Yes, you read that correctly. Museum Hack offers unconventional tours at famous museums, including one of our personal faves – The MET. Instead of listening to a long, boring explanation of the artwork, the knowledgeable guides at Museum Hack pick a few pieces of art and really tell you the backstory, but in an interesting way that you’ll ACTUALLY remember. They even offer themed tours like the “Badass Bitches” tour which focuses on female artists. Trust us, this is an adorable way to hang out with your new crush (bonus – you’ll seem totally cultured for suggesting this).
The Slipper Room
Looking to get a little hot and heavy? The Slipper Room was one of the first neo-burlesque venues in NYC! You can still catch a variety of performances like comedy shows, skits, musical numbers and of course, burlesque at this hidden gem in the Lower East Side. If you’re looking to get a little wild, we suggest the midnight show.
Cafe Wha? in West Village is one of the best live music venues in NYC. Why do we like it so much? The house cover band is CRAZY talented, and they play all your favorite songs from a ton of different decades. Talk about being able to dance (and sing) the night away! Make sure to book a table in advance. There’s a two drink minimum, and you can even have dinner – the bar food isn’t half bad.
Looking for a comedy show that’s a little more under the radar than the Comedy Cellar? Head over to The Stand on 3rd Avenue. The Stand always has great acts (both up-and-coming and established comedians), and it’s pretty easy to snag a ticket, and a good seat. Just be prepared to be poked fun at a bit.
The Imbible, A Spirited History of Drinking
This interactive Off-Broadway show is perfect for those who love a little side of history with their gin and tonic. The Imbible takes the audience through the history of drinking, touching on everything from how alcohol was first discovered to the difference between a cocktail and a mixed drink (yes, there is a difference). The best part – the show includes three complimentary cocktails!
