It’s no secret that I love spin classes—honestly it’s probably one of the reasons I started getting into fitness in the first place. I’ve made it my mission to try out every cycling class in the city (well, at least the ones that are supposed to be good :P) and have been dying to try AQUA Studio, a cycling class that takes place in a saltwater pool. Yes, in the pool!
The vibe of the studio is very Tribeca—super clean, chic, and dare I say it… bougie. Which, hey, is a good thing! I like working out in nice spaces and not feeling like I’m going to break out if I touch something and touch my face. The locker rooms were also really clean, but I will say the wait was a little out of control since basically everyone was trying to shower after class (I think there were four showers and my class was completely full).
AQUA Studio offers a variety of classes, but for my first class the staff recommended the Blend class which is a combo of the Power, Interval, and Restorative classes. I was surprised to find that the bikes themselves didn’t come with any resistance gears—no dial to ‘turn it up’, all the resistance comes from the water and you feel added resistance when you pedal faster, though nothing like a hill sequence at a spin class.
The class was really challenging, but didn’t feel anything like a Soulcycle or Flywheel class… aqua cycling is definitely its own category! I love that moving in the water also helps you detox as the water friction acts like a massage for your skin! Apparently that also helps to get rid of cellulite…. Looks like I’ll have to keep going!
p.s. AQUA Studio is on Classpass
